ME student Ms. Tenasia Hatch was named Michigan Tech's 2003 Homecoming Queen.

She chose to attend Michigan after earning a scholarship from the Automotive Womens Alliance.

The Automotive Womens Alliance web site profile quotes Tenasia: "I aspire to earn a bachelor's and eventually a master's degree in the field of mechanical engineering, from which I will continue to grow and develop mentally, physically and spiritually."

The AWA stated: "What a pleasure to introduce Tenasia to the AWA membership, and to know that we are an active part of the life of this delightful young woman. Her teachers consider her an 'outstanding candidate'for our scholarship, as she is 'imaginative, intelligent and determined.'"

Tenasia is studying at Michigan Tech in Houghton. She graduated from King High School last June, but also attended Golightly taking CAD and Design. While an academic over-achiever, Tenasia caught our attention for her philanthropic interests; volunteering for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the Black United Fund Foundation. "For as long as I remember, I have always wanted to do something to benefit the well-being of others...I have been in activities that extend beyond myself, giving back to society through community service. I obligate myself to help those in need..."

After a great deal of research and thought, Tenasia wrote, "...the field of mechanical engineering, with a concentration in automotive is closely related to what I want to do...every aspect of life has been touched by mechanical engineers..."

Tenasia send her sincere thanks to the membership for the financial help that is bringing her a little closer to her goal. "I strive to excel in life...It is with the assistance from the AWA that I am relieved from the crippling disadvantage (of financial insecurity)."
