Immediately following World War II and as the Cold War was beginning, Marian "Smitty" Smith became the first female mechanical engineering graduate at Michigan Tech. The year was 1948. Seventy-five years later, Marian Smith Scott is 95 years old living in Gaylord, MI. After completing junior college in 1946, Marian chose to continue her education at Michigan Tech. In 1978 Elzbieta graduated from Technical University of Wroclaw, Poland with a master's degree in Civil Engineering. While at Michigan Tech, she earned two degrees. A master's in Civil Engineering in 1981 and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering amp; Engineering Mechanics in 1985. Paul Masini

Paul Masini '69

Paul Masini was born and raised in Hancock and earned a B.S. in both Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration from Michigan Tech in 1969. He also received a MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1975. After graduation from Michigan Tech he joined Giddings amp; Lewis Machine Tool Company where he held various sales and manufacturing positions.
