Richard Henes fashioned considerable success from diligence and opportunity. A native of Menominee, Henes earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Tech in 1948, followed by a law degree from the University of Michigan. Chuck Laurila earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1959 and began his career as a field engineer with Boeing Company's Aerospace Division. He spent seven years with Boeing, becoming a senior engineer working on the Minuteman missiles at Air Force bases in the Western states.
