Pardon my saying, but I think I'll pass on by that mustang for a nice LTD. Serious.

General Vague Yet Unsorted Raw Data

Ford started production of the LTD for the '65 model year as a step up from the Galaxie. They originally came in these models.

  1. Two door sedan
  2. Two door hardtop
  3. Four door sedan
  4. Four door hardtop
  5. Four door wagon
  6. Four door hardtop wagon - cool.

Hardtops were offered through the 1974 model year just before the body change.

Nifty power breezeway-vent windows were an option on all the hardtops.

Power seats, windows, locks, and trunk release were options, as well as the power moon roof.

Summary: Fords Car Lineup

  1. Customs were the basic models
  2. Galaxies were trimmed and optioned better
  3. LTD's were the top of the line as far as trim and standard options
  4. The 1973-1974 two-door Broughams are fairly unique. They only looked this way for those two years.

When LTD's first came out they had these motors.

  1. 250 straight-6 (Somehow producing 0-30 times equal to the 302 in later LTDs. I would attribute this to creative gearing, because I've ridden in 250 Granadas & Fairmonts, and boy, were they SLOW!)
  2. 289-2V standard
  3. 289 HI-PO optional
  4. 390-2V optional
  5. 390-4V optional
  6. 427-2 and 4V optional
  7. 428-4V optional

In '68 the 302 became the standard engine.

In '69 the 351W became the standard engine and remained in that position until '75, when the 351M became the base engine, although some still managed to get the Windsors.

In '68 the top engine was the 428 or the 427 could be dealer optioned.

In '69 the 429 was on the option list, as was the 460.

In '79, with the body style change, the 302 was reinstated as the base engine.

In the early '80's, LTD's branched

The full sized ones became the LTD Crown Victoria, and the LTD became a Fairmont based mid-sized car with a host of engines, including:

  1. 2.3L
  2. 200 CID
  3. 3.3L
  4. 232 CID
  5. 3.8L V-6
  6. A de-stroked version of the 302. This one displaced 255 cubic inches.

Some of the crown Vics. got the 255 also.

Other LTDs for example, might represent a 1971 LTD convertible with a 400-2V
