Magik!

As the name suggests, this page is devoted to the memories of characters in the Marvel Universe that have died, disappeared or conveniently been forgotten. Meant to be used as a FAQ, this page will discuss plotholes, dangling plotlines and is meant to provide insight for all comic collectors.

Since I borrowed the name of her kingdom, Limbo, for the name of these pages, I felt it was only fair to dedicate the first biography to 'Yana. May her memory never fade.

One of the most senseless character deaths in the marvel universe was that of Illyana Rasputina, AKA Magik. Orignally, 'Yana was created as a mere plot device to give her brother Colossus "more emotional depth." She was killed for a similar reason - to bring home the threat of the Legacy Virus. But during her short life as a Marvel character, she became a character in her own right - capturing the hearts of many Marvel readers. To make a long story short, 'Yana was kidnapped and taken to an extradimensional world called Limbo. While in Limbo, 'Yana was raised by a sorcerer and his demons, and aged several years though only a few seconds had passed on Earth.

As a comic reader, I see a parallel here between her life and the fate of many forgotten characters in the Marvel universe. Used as plot devices, sometimes for hundreds of issues or more, these characters then died or disappeared from the pages of the Marvel comics - never to be seen by the fans again. They exist in "Comic Limbo" - that place where characters disappear to when they have outlived their usefulness.

There used to be a scant handful of really good comic-devoted sites on the web. But that is no longer the case. Now it seems that every time I get on the net, a new web page devoted to the comic cause has appeared. Most of these sites are really neat, creative and fun to visit and play with. But I didn't want to be the proud owner of yet another site devoted to one comic or one company or one character, or even to a whole bunch of each. I wanted to do something different, unique. (Don't we ALL??)

A year and some months ago I had this idea of creating a site devoted to the dead, disappeared and forgotten characters of the Marvel Universe. Since I belong to several comic related mailing lists, I know that comic fans are always asking "Whatever happened to fill in the blank of an old character" ... and GOOD answers are hard to find. Limbo is intended to help collectors solve these mysteries.
