Dr. Pandit's principal contribution has been the evolution of a new methodology called Data Dependent Systems in his M.S. and Ph.D. theses. In this approach, differential/difference equations are directly obtained from observed data and used for system analysis, forecasting and control. He has taught three graduate level courses in this methodology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an undergraduate/graduate three course sequence at the Michigan Technological University and the National Technological University. He has also undertaken research in the application of this methodology to computer integrated manufacturing, metrology, solar energy simulation, paper-making, blast furnace operation, quality control, business forecasting, vibration and modal analysis, and machine vision.
