Current/recent research projects:

Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at Michigan Tech since `82. He has held academic positions with the University of Illinois (1976-1980) and the University of Minnesota (1980-82). He received his diploma from the National Technical University of Athens and his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota (1975). Currently coordinating the MTU Center for Mechanics of Materials and Instabilities and an EEC network on Mechanics and Materials involving 12 European Laboratories through Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has published over 250 papers in the areas of mechanics and materials science, edited 5 books, organized numerous international symposia, and been invited to present his research on over 150 occasions. He is co-editor of the Journal of Mechanical Behavior of Materials, is on the Board of Acta Mechanica, and is on the Advisory Board of Mechanics of Cohesive Friction Materials and Structure. He is currently coordinating 2 grants from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, 1 grant from the National Science Foundation and 2 grants from the European Community totaling ~ 1 million USD.
