Cliffs Shaft News     


    The Members and Volunteers of the MRIMHTPI would like to remember Burt Boyum, The visionary and driving force behind the preservation of the Cliffs Shaft Mine. He will truely be missed.
Feb 4th, 1919-
Mar 17th, 2005     



    Burt was instermental in many historic and civic organizations including the establishment of the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame in Ishpeming, Preserving the Quincy Mine in Hancock, Directing the Carp River Forge Association, and being a Scoutmaster to the Boy Scouts. Burt also was involved in countless other groups and organizations.

The Cliffs Shaft Mine however was a true success. Burt knew that the mine property had to be saved for future generations. He is the reason the mine is here today. We were proud to give Burt the honor of opening the property to tourism on June 29th 2002. After he guided its handover on September 19th, 1998 from CCI. This mine will stand in recognition of one mans foresight in historcal preservation.     




    This year we officially open on Tuesday May 31st. We will have events such as the "Buzz the Gut" car show and a series of Flea markets through out the summer. Check back to see the full list of events and activities occuring.
