As part
of the Annual Spring Trip that the Michigan Tech BMES chapter sponsors,
BMES members made the 370mi trip from Houghton, MI to Minneapolis, MN in
Spring 2000 to tour some of the Biomedical Engineering related facilities
that Minneapolis is known for. Medtronic's Neuro and Cardio Divisions, the University of
Minnesota's Biomedical
Engineering Dept., and Boston
Scientific SCIMED were all visited. The Spring Trip allows students
interested in Biomedical Engineering to experience real world applications of
BME. Many of this year's participants were amazed by amount of manual labor
that is incorporated in the realization of Biomedical products. Highlights of the trip
included "gowning up", entering, and interacting in clean room
facilities, dismantling and exploring current biomedical devices, and the
gracious hospitality that the companies and Michigan Tech Alumni gave to the
group. |
