MTU Alpine Ski Team Places 12th at Nationals
The MTU Alpine Ski Team recently returned from Mammoth Mountain California where they were competing in the United States Collegiate Skiing Championships. They placed 11th in each event and placed 12th overall. The Team was ranked 12th in the Nation at the beginning of the season.
Heavy snow(2 feet) of snow on Tuesday caused the women's GS to be moved back a day to Thursday. Both Slalom's were held on Friday and then the Men's GS was held on Saturday. Due to the Heavy snow the courses got rutted up quickly and it was hard for anyone to attack from the back. Unlike many teams the Huskies finished all 5 racers in both events.
In the Slalom MTU's top finisher was DJ Longhini in 16th place, one position out from being placed on the All-America team. In GS Greg Goodman was fastest for Tech, he placed 20th.
The winners of the event were Sierra Nevada College who placed first in each event. Former World Cup and US National Slalom Champion Uros Pavlovic won both races for Sierra Nevada. In second place was St. Olaf College from Minnesota.
