MTU skier wins Minnesota Governors cup Giant Slalom
The Michigan Tech Alpine Ski Team travelled to Giant's Ridge Ski Resort this past weekend to compete in the Mineesota Governors Cup. The Women's team finished 4th overall out of 9 teams. The Men finished 2nd out of 12 teams.
The weekend was highlighted by Michigan Tech's Chris Dehlin who won the Giant Slalom race and finished second in the Slalom.
In the Women's Giant Slalom, Martha Grant was the fast skier for Michigan Tech finishing 12th. In the Slalom Jen Mroz lead the team by finishing 8th.
The team will have next weekend off and then travel to Blackjack Mountain the next weekend to compete at the Wisconsin Governor's cup.

Interesting Facts:
The Michigan Tech Men's Ski Team has qualified for the National Championships the past 3 years and look strong again this year. Seniors Chris Dehlin and Greg Goodman and juniors DJ Longhini and George Peet all return for the Huskies from last year. Junior Matt Davis and freshman Dan Gidcumb top out the Men's A Team.
The Women's team has it's best chance in recent years to qualify. Junior Jessica Erber returns and is helped out by Senior Jen Mroz skiing in her first year for MTU but is originally from Houghton. Freshmen Martha Grant and Kim Schneck are right in the hunt as well. Sophmore Stephanie Lemon finishes out the Women's A team.
The Michigan Tech Alpine Ski Team is a non-varsity sport that is partially funded by USG. Most of the financial support comes from the athletes themselves.
The Team competes in the Lake Superior Region of the Midwest Collegiate Snowsports Association which is a member of the United States Collegiate Snowsports Association.
They compete against and often defeate many varsity teams.
