Kari's life

Hello Everyone! My name is Kari Manchik and I am a freshman at Michigan Technological University. I am majoring in Mechanical Engineering. During our freshman orientation week, one of our ME professors allowed each of us to choose a project for the Fall 2004 semester to improve MTU in some way. After seeing that a freshman web page was one of the options, I jumped at the opportunity. I love the idea of coming together with a group and forming a type of information center for all those who are curious about what really happens during your freshman year, not just at any college but specifically MTU.

But first, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am from Richmond, Michigan which is in the lower eastern part of the Lower Peninsula. I have three brothers, one who is 22 and two twin brothers who are 12. Some of my hobbies are playing basketball as much as possible, working out, and playing softball.

I travel ten hours to attend MTU. You may be wondering why I go here instead of a university closer to home. Well, MTU has so much to offer. From the wide variety of sports, including “Ultimate Frisbee” and “Broomball”, the friendly people, residence life, and many different organizations, there is something for everyone. All of these positive qualities make MTU a very highly respected school.

So far, I am very happy with my choice in attending MTU. I am very excited about experiencing many new and interesting things here in Houghton.
