Dr. Terry Woychowski is the Executive Director, GM North America
Vehicle Systems Engineering. In this capacity he is responsible
for the engineering, design and development of components and systems
for all cars and trucks developed in North America.
He is also the Vehicle Chief Engineer, GM Full Size Trucks a position
he has held since 1998. His responsibilities include the engineering
design, development and integration for full-size light-duty and
heavy-duty pickup trucks marketed under the Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac
and Hummer brands.
He received his BSME degree from Michigan tech in 1978. He had
post-graduate studies at Wayne State University, Duke University
and a honorary doctorate from Illinois Wesleyan University.
After graduating from Michigan tech in 1978, he joined GM as an
engineer in the noise and vibration laboratory at GM's Milford Proving
Grounds. He was responsible for general engine, powertrain and driveline
development for cars and trucks. He was appointed development engineer
for noise/vibration/harshness (NVH), structure and ride/handling
for midsize truck-based vans in 1982.
From 1985 to 1987 he served as department head and mechanical engineering
professor for at Pensacola Christian College.
In 1987 he returned to GM as development engineer at GM's proving
grounds in Mesa, Arizona. He was named chassis and suspension design
release engineer for GM's small pickups and utilities in 1990, then
promoted to engineering group manager for road load simulation in
1992. Then in 1993 he was appointed assistant chief engineer for
full-size truck development, full-size vans and commercial chassis.
In 1996 Dr. Woychowski was promoted to truck manufacturing at the
Pontiac truck assembly plant that won awards from J.D. Power and
Associates during his tenure.
Dr. Woychowski won GM's highest honor, the GM Chairman's Honors
for his role in brining the Chevrolet Avalanche and Hummer H2 to
market.
Dr. Woychowski has been engaged in many civic projects, including
several trips to the Balkans to aid refugees in Albania and Kosovo.
Dr. Woychowski is the General Motor's key executive liaison with
Michigan Tech.
