Norsk Hydro a.s.a, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology

President Visits Tech
Annette
K. Clayton, president of Saturn Corporation, visited
Michigan Tech with several General Motors Corp. engineering
staff who also met with students. She presented a seminar
to students and faculty, followed by a dialog of questions

Tech finished its final FutureTruck in the money, coming
in fourth in a field of 15 schools hand-picked for the prestigious

The
General Motors Foundation has donated $10,000
to support Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative
Engineering Education (PACE). The money will fund the
new "Computer Laboratory for Demanufacturing,"
in which students will be able to virtually disassemble a wide
range of products such as automotive modules, washing machines,
and cellular phones using e-Factory software. Story |

Peck
Cho to receive the 2003 Distinguished Service Award
Peck
Cho, Michigan Tech's unofficial ambassador to Korea,
has been selected to receive the 2003 Distinguished Service
Award.Since 1996, Cho has created a virtual highway between
Michigan Tech and his native South Korea. Thanks to his efforts,
hundreds of students have come here for study and research,
from graduate students to high schoolers enrolling in Summer
Youth.

PACE
Design Contest
On December
8th, PACE hosted a design competition in the MEEM 4403 Computer-Aided
Design Methods class. Judges came from GM and EDS. John Baker,
an MTU alum now at EDS, flew in from Cypress, California for
the competition. Web

top teams in FutureTruck, taking third place and $4,000 in the
annual competition that challenges college students to build
a better SUV.

Owen wins Gold Medal
Kristina Owen, ME-EM student and a member of Michigan Tech's
women's Nordic skiing team, took home the Gold medal at the
women's open junior 10-kilometer race.

Joseph Berger of the Michigan Tech football
team has been named to the 2003 Daktronics All-America Second
Team. He has a 3.73 cumulative grade point average in mechanical

Michigan
Tech's SAE Student Chapter earned the First Place Award
for the 2003 SAE Detroit Section Student Exhibit Competition
at the 2003 SAE Congress at Cobo Hall in Detroit, March 3-6,
2003. Our Student Chapter has
earned First Place for the second year in a row. This three
day event is the largest gathering of engineers in the world.
Ours was one of three FutureTrucks on display this year.

J. Woychowski (BSME '78) was named chief engineer
of General Motors full-size trucks. He spoke to an overflow
seminar audience about the challenges that major manufacturers
face in designing and building trucks.
