Dr. Tammy Haut Donahue earns the Outstanding New Mechanics Educator Award given annually to up to three individuals who have shown a strong commitment to mechanics education by the American Society for Engineering Education.

Dr. John W. Sutherland, Henes Chair Professor, has been elected Fellow of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. The nominees are selected for having made outstanding contributions to the manufacturing profession.

Dr. Athanasios G. Konstandopoulos Dr. Athanasios G. Konstandopoulos, MScME-Michigan Tech Alumnus celebrated the 10th anniversary as the founder and head of the Aerosols and Particles Laboratory, a well-known European diesel emission aftertreatment laboratory in Thessaloniki, Greece and he was elected a SAE Fellow recently.

Dr. Jaime A. Camelio Dr. Jaime A. Camelio has been selected to receive the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) 2007 Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award.

The SME Kwo K. Wang Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award is conferred in recognition of significant achievements and leadership in the field of manufacturing engineering as a young engineer. Dr. Camelio is one of only 13 recipients who will receive the award in 2007. More Details

Engineering Grads Head List of Salary Offers

In a job market that is seeing higher starting salary offers to new college graduates, engineering majors can expect to see the highest offers, on average, according to a report by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).

Mohan D. Rao Dr. Mohan D. Rao Named SME Fellow
Dr. Mohan D. Rao has been elected to the grade of Fellow in the Society of Automotive Engineers. The announcement contained the following. "The SAE Fellow Committee selected you as one of this year's thirty-two electees based on your outstanding contributions in the areas of vehicle Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) research."

New Computer Labs & Technologies at MEEM

The MEEM 'Fish Bowl' labs (Michigan and Superior) received a face lift including new software that allows lecturers to annotate animated slides and Powerpoint slides or other presentation software by writing directly on the screen.

Barna Commercialization Excellence Award Commercialization Excellence Award
Governor Jennifer Granholm has presented one of the first University Commercialization Excellence Awards to Michigan Technological University alumnus Glen Barna ('76). Barna was a graduate student at Michigan Tech when his innovative research led to the creation of IR Telemetrics Inc., the worldwide technology leader in wireless data transfer from reciprocating and rotating components. Dr. John K. Gershenson
has been selected by the Society of Automotive Engineers to receive a 2005 Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award. This annual award recognizes outstanding engineering educators. The program underwrites the cost of bringing recipients to an SAE meeting to participate in industry tours and meetings with industry professionals, aquainting them with professional activities in the automotive and aerospace industries. Mercury Marine
Mercury Marine Engineers flew in to visit Michigan Tech and tour Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science Engineering research and student design labs. Hill (BSME '65), Corvette Chief Engineer and Vehicle Line Executive (Performance Cars) at General Motors Corporation presented a seminar 'Engineering the Corvette: Power, Passion, Precision' for ME-EM faculty and students in February. Michigan Tech took 1st in Design Overall, 1st in Design and Innovation, 1st in Analysis, 1st in Aesthetics,at the 2005 ASME Human Powered Vehicle (HPV) Competition held in Alabama.
