Aerospace Enterprise Student Leader Wins Defense Department Fellowship
The US Department of Defense (DoD) is going to help Jeff Katalenich realize his dream of pursuing a graduate degree in nuclear engineering. Katalenich, a fourth-year mechanical engineering major at Michigan Tech, has won a National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship that will enable him to attend the University of Michigan graduate program in nuclear engineering and radiological sciences |

Craig Friedrich, associate chair and director of graduate studies in the Department of Mechanical Engineering-Engineering Mechanics, was appointed to the Robbins Chair in Sustainable Design and Manufacturing. These chairs were made possible by the generous support of Richard Robbins and his wife, Bonnie.
"Dick and Bonnie Robbins recognize that our students' understanding of the fragile nature of the world around them depends on their direct experience with today's environmental challenges, both in the classroom and in research," said President Glenn D. Mroz. More Details from Tech Today

Jeffrey Allen, an assistant professor of mechanical engineering-engineering mechanics, has been selected to receive a 2009 SAE Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award.
Michigan Tech
have received the largest number of SAE Ralph R. Teetor Educational
Awards out of all universities in the U. S. Michigan Tech faculty have
earned 19 Teetor awards since it was first awarded in 1965 through the
current year, 2009. Of the 19 award winners from Michigan Tech, 17 were
ME-EM faculty. |

John H. Johnson, Presidential
Professor Emeritus, has been selected for membership on the National
Research Council (NRC) Committee on Fuel Economy of Medium- and
Heavy-Duty Vehicles. The NRC is part of the National Academies. The
appointment ends on May 31, 2010.

Kiepert is a design engineer with The Gravity
Group that specializes in the creation of roller
coasters. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
'97and Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering '99 for studying

Three of the
General Motors corporation's chief vehicle engineers graduated
from Michigan Tech. All of them are mechanical engineers.
Terry Woychowski '78 leads the largest vehicle platform-GM full-size
trucks. Doug Parks '84 is the chief engineer for small cars,
including Saturns and the Chevy Cobalt. Dave Hill '65 has perhaps
the sexiest job of them all-the chief engineer for the Corvette.

Athanasios G. Konstandopoulos, MScME-Michigan Tech Alumnus celebrated
the 10th anniversary as the founder and head of the Aerosols
and Particles Laboratory, a well-known European diesel
emission aftertreatment laboratory in Thessaloniki, Greece and he was elected a SAE Fellow recently. |
