Prof. Herbert W. Hawn

Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering

Herbert Walker Hawn was born October 5, 1905 in Starkville, New York. He was a graduate of Pontiac Michigan High school in 1924. He graduated from Pontiac Junior College, and earned B.S. and E.M. degrees in Mining from Michigan Tech. He later earned a B.S. and M.S. degree in mechanical engineering.

His long career in teaching at Michigan Tech of  47 years spanned from 1928 to 1975. He began his career as a mechanical drawing instructor. In addition to teaching, he served as a building inspector and was the Superintendent of Buildings and the Steam Plant. He became an assistant professor in the mechanical engineering department in 1938 retiring in 1975 at the rank of professor of mechanical engineering. He died on August 23, 1986.
