Admission

Successful applicants must meet the admission requirements established by the Graduate School of Michigan Tech. In addition, in some cases the department has established more rigorous requirements than those of the University. Applicants should have a bachelor's degree in engineering, a physical science, or mathematics. Applications are accepted at any time, but should be submitted at least eight months before the expected starting semester.

It is expected that all applicants will take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) general test and applicants whose native language is not English must take the TOEFL exam.

Scores required are as follows:
560/600 Verbal   720/800 Quantitative   4/6 Analytical

TOEFL Requirement:
27 27 27 in each category    270/300 minimum.

Admission to the MS degree program generally requires a cumulative GPA greater than 3.0 (4.0 basis). Undergraduate applicants with outstanding academic qualifications (GPA greater than 3.7), are encouraged to apply directly to the PhD program. Applicants with an MS degree are expected to have a graduate GPA greater than 3.5 for admission to the PhD program.

MS applicants are required to submit 3 letters of reference along with the application packet. Doctoral applicants are required to submit 3 completed recommendation forms. These should be completed by 3 faculty members familiar with the applicant's academic work.
