Stuart C. Allen died Wednesday, October 19, 2011, in Bradenton, Fla.

Mr. Allen was born November 17, 1908, in Frankfurt, N. Y. to George and Pearl Allen. He attended Oswego Normal School in Oswego, N.Y. and earned a B.S. and M.S. from New York University.

Mr. Allen taught at Patchogue High School in Long Island, N.Y. as well as Engineering Dept. co-head at Champlain College, SUNY, from 1946-1954.

From 1953 until his retirement in 1971, he was professor of mechanical engineering at Michigan Technological University; he retired as Professor Emeritus.

Mr. Allen and his late wife, Marguerite, retired to Longboat Key, Fla., in 1971.

He loved playing tennis and was a charter member of the Cedars Tennis Club on Longboat Key. Mr. Allen was a registrar and treasurer for The Sarasota Institute of Lifelong Learning from 1972-1986.

In addition to his wife Marguerite, he was preceded in death by son Charles Allen.

Surviving are daughter-in-law Janet Allen of Houghton; granddaughters, Sue (Bart) Vincent of Irmo, S.C., Lynn (Andy) Seel of Henderson, Nev. and Patty (Bruce) Novelen of Noblesville, Ind.; great-grandchildren, Emily, Stuart and Patrick Vincent, Alexander Bennett, Andrea Seel, Adam and Audrey Novelen.
