Dr. Harold A. Evensen Retires After 35+ Years
Dr. Evensen earned his BSME at Michigan Tech in 1961 and his MS in Mechanical
Engineering in 1964 and his PhD in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
in 1966, both from Syracuse University.
After completing a post-doctoral fellowship at Syracuse University on
the dynamic response of structures and thin shells in 1996, he worked
from 1966-1968 at NASA - Ames Research Center, as an assignment with the
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. From 1968-1970 he worked at Whittaker Research
and Development in San Diego, CA.
Dr. Evensen joined the Michigan Tech MEEM department in 1970. He earned
the Distinguished Teacher Award in 1977 and MEEM Teacher of the Year in
1982. His research has been in noise control, vehicle sound quality, NVH,
noise source identification, energy flow in structures, and signal analysis.
He held the Associate Chair and Coordinator of Graduate Studies position
1987-93 and the Associate Chair of Undergraduate Studies 2001-2006. He
has over 100 publications and was co-author of the textbook, Noise Control
for Engineers.
The retirement banquet was held at the Miscowaubik Club in Calumet, MI.
