Society for Experimental Mechanics: International Modal Analysis Conference

The ME-EM Department co-hosted an alumni reception in Orlando FL at the SEM-IMAC Conference with the University of Cincinnati. Dr. William Shapton, Professor Emeritus from MTU/ME-EM Department was honored along with Dr. David Brown Professor Emeritus from the University of Cincinnati.

SEM held a session at the 25th International Modal Analysis Conference in 2007 recognizing Dr. Shapton's “remarkable contributions to the field of structural dynamics and to the IMAC conference and community”.

D.J. DeMICHELE AWARD

Dr. William Shapton, Professor Emeritus from MTU/ME-EM Department was honored with the DeMichele Award for 2006. This award, established in 1990 in honor of Dominick J. DeMichele (1916-2000), recognizes an individual who has demonstrated "exemplary service and support of promoting the science and educational aspects of modal analysis technology." This award is presented annually at the International Modal Analysis Conference. DeMichele Award

Dr. Al Wicks , Chairman of the IMAC conference (Michigan Tech PhD EM '87); Frank Eselpage, Professor Charles VanKarsen from Michigan Tech;William Shapton; and Professor Randal Allemang, past president of SEM. Professors Wicks, VanKarsen and Allemang are former students of Professor Shapton.

Professors Wicks(VPI & SU), Vankarsen (MTU), Espelage(Cincy), Allemang(Cincy), Shapton(MTU), Dr. Jim Declerk(GM), Dave Brown(Cincy), William Predebon(MTU) and Jim Lally(founder of PCB). Wicks, Vankarsen, Allemang and Declerk are former students of professor Shapton.
